Cultivating Creativity in Teaching & Learning

This 2 hour session (20 participants) includes visual slide presentations, interactive creative projects, and group discussion/reflection. The creative process can be a tool for cross-curricular or subject focused lesson development, creating arts integrated learning projects, understanding student motivation, and guiding students through critical thinking. The workshop provides each person with a utilitarian sketch book and creative materials, to engage in visual experiments to better understand each step of the creative process. No need to consider yourself an artist to attend!

SESSION FULL - Create Your Own Gemstone Tree (cost and pre-registration required)

Participants will create their own gemstone tree sculpture using wire and natural pre-drilled gemstones. The design taught in this session is simple enough to use in art class with your students, yet elegant enough to result in a finished piece you will want to display in your home or classroom. The fee covers all necessary supplies and the use of the required tools. Participant cost and pre-registration required.

Making sky science memorable and effective

In our time together, Rod will provide examples of teaching methods along with visual resources to make learning sky science both memorable and effective. We will become aquainted with space, its size and scale, its contents and our place in the observable universe. Astronomy fills our every day culture. We actually know more astronomy than we realize and Rod will uncover these amazing cultural touchstones. For example, how the arctic gets its name, what the "dog days of summer" really means, or what does a zoo have in common with the zodiac? We will use visuals, hands on demonstrations as well as a PowerPoint presentation.

Using the medium of coffee, participants will simultaneously wake up and create amazing relief prints. These artworks use splashes, drips and spills to produce unique and creative effects.
